Director Responsibilities:

The Gordon School is comprised of three divisions: The Day School (K-6th Grade), the early Childhood Center

(3 months - PK), and the Tikvah Center (Special Needs PK-5th Grade), and is located in the beautiful Roads neighborhood of Miami, FL. We are a warm, welcoming, and inclusive Jewish Community Day School, and are part of the Center for Jewish Life at Beth David.

The Day School Director is responsible for the supervision, management, and quality of all aspects of the Day School at the Gordon School (Grades K-6). The Day School Director oversees the day-to-day operations of the school, while demonstrating exceptional professional conduct and consideration for the educational development, safety, and welfare of the children and staff. The Director is part of the Educational Leadership Team of the Gordon School, and reports directly to the Head of School, and also works closely with the Tikvah Center Director and the ECC Director to ensure consistent systems and practices across all departments.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Academic Leadership:

Conduct regular classroom observations and provide constructive feedback to the teachers to enhance teaching practices.
Collaborate with teachers to design and implement effective student assessments and data-driven instructional strategies.
Foster a culture of high academic standards, continuous improvement, and innovative best-practice teaching methods within a warm and inclusive environment.
Assess our current curricula and ensure that the curricula throughout all grade levels aligns with the school's mission, educational goals, and best practices in the field.
Understand the implications of the results of yearly standardized testing on the learning happening in our classrooms and communicate these to faculty, staff, families. Use this information to assess secular studies curricula at the Gordon School from year to year.

Demonstrate excellent judgment and problem-solving ability.
2. Social/Emotional Growth:

Promote a positive school culture that prioritizes the social and emotional well-being of students and staff members, and focuses on character education for the students.
Encourage a sense of community and inclusivity among students, families, and staff.
Work with the Tikvah Center Director to create shared language about our inclusive environment and consistently assess how we can support student growth in the Day School classrooms and specials.
Implement programming and policies that support the mission and guiding principles of the school.
3. Communication:

Establish open and transparent communication channels with parents to foster strong partnerships between home and school.
Collaborate with teachers to engage parents in their child's educational journey.
Develop staff manuals, parent packets and regular community communications.
Manage weekly teacher communication, student evaluations and overall staff communications with families.
Conference with staff and parents as needed.
Meet regularly with the Parent Association and School Committee as requested.
Attend and participate in all Parent Association events.
In partnership with the Director of Admissions, meet with, assess new students, and enroll new families.
4. Supervision and Teacher Support:

Observe on a regular basis the classrooms, and meet weekly with teachers to give consistent, useful feedback.
Oversee staff orientation and development with the Head of School, ECC Director, and Tikvah Center Director.
Supervise and perform administrative operations of the school, including registration, school calendar, scheduling of staff and programs, attendance and evaluation of children.
Recruit and hire new, mission appropriate staff for open positions within the Day School.
Work alongside the ECC Director, Tikvah Director, and Head of School to create meaningful Professional Development opportunities for the staff.
Work alongside the Tikvah Director to ensure the Day School teachers have the support they need to support the Tikvah students in their classrooms.
5. Administrative Duties:

Oversee the day-to-day operations of the school, including scheduling, finding substitutes, overseeing carpool, working alongside the Head of School, ECC Director and the Tikvah Director to create smooth and meaningful systems that flow between departments.
Recruit, hire, and evaluate teaching and administrative staff.
Maintain compliance with state and local education regulations and accreditation standards.
Position Requirements

At least five years of experience, including leadership experience, working in educational settings.
Understanding of current best practices in Jewish Day School education.
Bachelor's Degree; Master's Degree in Education or related field preferred.
Background screening and First Aid/CPR certification will be required and provided by the school.
At least 3 years of administrative experience in Education or related fields.
Proficiency in Google platform applications preferred.
Must communicate well with both adults and children, both verbally and in written communication.
References required.
Reporting Relationships

Reports directly to the Head of School.
Supervises Lead Teachers, Assistant Teachers, Substitutes and Volunteers.

Physical Requirements

Lifting, pushing and pulling up to 35 pounds using proper body mechanics and/or available equipment as physically required-including but not limited to helping children, lifting children who may need comforting, aren't feeling well, moving supplies, etc.
Physical stamina - must be able to bend, kneel, squat and sit on the floor, etc. as required to lead and participate in child related activities as necessary.
Must be able to stand, walk around and remain active during the work day as required for child and office related activities. Must be able to stand for 45 minutes consecutively while supervising children on the playground or in the classroom.
Work is mainly performed in a weather controlled, air conditioned/heated facility with some time spent outdoors supervising children on the playground and during field trips. Facility is well lit and has typical preschool environment obstacles, such as running children, small-sized furniture, toys, cubbies, etc.
